Artwork

File consists of photographs of a collection of two-dimensional artwork painted by Douglas Cranmer. The artwork includes paintings of the halibut creation myth, eagles in various forms (sea eagle in ovoid form, an eagle, eagle with bear), abstract artwork in black and white with red accents, D’zonoqua, a fish and a mink with clouds. There are also two photographs which show Douglas Cranmer with his artwork, one at a North Vancouver outdoor show of his work in 1964 and one of him in his shop at 2706 Granville Street in Vancouver in 1965.

File consists of photographs documenting various events attended by Virginia Kehoe, including ceremonies in the Alert Bay Big House, boats in Alert Bay Harbour, attending the gravesites of Mungo and Sarah Martin and Daniel Cranmer, several photographs of adults and children in regalia and salmon barbeques.

Large-scale carvings

File consists of photographs of six large-scale carving projects created by Douglas Cranmer. There are five totem poles photographed, which include a mosquito totem pole, a thunderbird, man and Sisiutl totem pole for private commission in Illinois in 1965, two smaller-scale totem poles and, predominantly, the process of carving the St. Catherine’s Centennial 40 foot totem pole in 1966, including photographs of the initial stages of carving and transportation of the pole. Photographs also show the process of creating a Nootka canoe for the Royal Museum of British Columbia building in Victoria, B.C. Photographs include sketched plans for the canoe and Douglas Cranmer and Godfrey Hunt working on the carving of the canoe outdoors and indoors.

Small-scale carvings

File consists of photographs of a collection of three-dimensional small-scale carvings completed by Douglas Cranmer. These carvings include the McMichael lintels, small wooden carvings of eagles, carving of two “Slave Killers”, a halibut carving and a group of three unidentified wooden carvings. Photographs of masks include a killer whale mask, sun mask, seagull mask, frog mask, old whale mask, sea monster mask, D’zonoqua mask, cod fish mask and an unpainted cedar head.
