Tsilhqot'in/Secwepemc/Stl'al'lmx/Nlaka'pamux

The majority of the file contains historical images of the Tsilhqot'in, Secwepemc, Stl'al'lmx, and the Nlaka'pamux peoples. The photographs depict village life, including images of building structures in the BC interior, fish processing techniques such as fish drying, and carvings such as mortuary poles. Some of the images also depict First Nations people, some in regalia. The other images are official photographs taken by various museums in Canadian and American museums of Tsilhqot'in, Secwepemc, Stl'al'lmx, or Nlaka'pamux artifacts. The textual records contained in this file consist of a photocopy of a magazine article titled "Upstairs, downstairs: the early years," written by Heather Pringle, and published in the June 1996 (Volume 111, number 5) edition of the magazine Saturday Night.

General Salish

This file contains images of Coast Salish and Kwakwaka'wakw artifacts. Many of the photos are official photographs taken by various museums in Canada and the United States, but others are historical photos. These artifacts include masks, rattles, carvings, fishing equipment and fish processing, canoes, and North Coast architecture, such as long houses and house posts.

Ketchikan and Kitwancool Totems and Views

File consists of slides depicting totems and views labeled as in Kispiox, Kitwancool, Ketchikan, Haida, Kitseguckla, Skedans, and Kingcome. File also consists of slides documenting two of Minn Sjolseth's paintings entitled "En av de Siste" (sp?) and "Peace."

Photos of Elders

File consists of slides labeled "Andy," "Mr and Mrs Williams, Friendly Cove, Nootka," "Anthony Island Queen Charlotte Island 1967," "Minn Sketching at Yan QCI, Haida," "Kitwancool 1969," "Kasper," "Mary Ann 1967 Squamish," and "Kingcome."

File consists of photographic prints depicting Salish cultural objects from other institutions. Many of the prints are annotated with handwritten, stamped, or typed information about the contents of the images or their original repositories. The contents of this file were used to create object labels for Canada Museum of History Object ID VII-G-359 and MOA Object ID A1780; A1781; A50003; A50004; and A50005 a, b, & c in MOA's Great Hall.

History of Copper (20 coppers from Alert Bay), GW(?) Hunt, 1924

Photocopy of a manuscript about coppers from Alert Bay, BC. Front page notes that it was "sent by GW(?) Hunt, Port Hardy, BC." It also has a stamp from the "Department of Mines geological Survey, received Mar 26, 1924. Division of Anthropology."

Nootka/Currie

File consists of slides depicting First Nations chiefs and elders, Carter's wife Minn Sjolseth with August Jacks, Johnny Seaweed, miscellaneous images from Mount Currie/Lil'wat First Nation, and a photograph labeled "Potlatch Masset 60s".

File consists of photographic prints depicting Haida cultural objects from other institutions. Many of the prints are annotated with handwritten, stamped, or typed information about the contents of the images or their original repositories.
