Museum of Anthropology doors

Sub-series consists of textual records including documentation on the meaning behind the carved Museum of Anthropology doors and the ‘Ksan artists who worked on the project.

Chinese Peasant Textiles Art: Kwantung and Szechuan Provinces

Subseries consists of records relating to the exhibit, “Chinese Peasant Textiles Art.” This exhibit was proposed by Elizabeth Johnson and carried out by students. Records include notes, excerpts from articles, visitor survey forms, handwritten notations, hand-drawn diagrams of display cases, proposals and budgets.

General correspondence

Subseries consists correspondence and communication between Hawthorn and individuals who were not representatives of another museum. There are several General Correspondence files, divided by year, and these consist primarily of people requesting that Audrey Hawthorn identify and price various objects, to recommend where to purchase NWC material, to speak at functions, and of requests for bibliographies. This subseries differs from subseries 10-B in that although the files may contain inquiries and requests, they often contain other types of correspondence as well. Record forms include correspondence, press releases, and ephemera.

Finding a Voice recordings

Subseries consists of audio recordings and transcripts of interviews conducted with Norman Tait (one interview also features Lucinda Turner) for Finding a Voice: The Art of Norman Tait (2015).

Topics include: learning from family members and master carvers, learning other styles, signature parts of Norman's work, economy around totem poles, childhood and residential school experiences, reflections on career, Nisg̱a’a names, reflections on Norman's family, potlatches, and museums.

Research and Memorabilia

Subseries consists of materials related to Vickie Jensen's collaboration and research with the Tait family, with particular emphasis on biographical information for Norman Tait. Materials include interviews with Norman Tait on his art and personal history, Norman Tait's CV and autobiography, newspaper articles on Norman Tait's artwork, images of Norman Tait's artwork, biographical materials on Isaac Tait (Norman's son), related publications on totem poles and carving, and materials relating to Norman Tait's death.

Where the People Gather recordings

Subseries consists of audio recordings and transcripts of interviews regarding totem poles, speakers include Norman Tait, Hope Allen Tait, Wayne Young, Robert "Chip" Tait, Howard Green, Isaac Tait, and Reva Robinson.

Kwak’wala recordings

Consists of audio recordings of the Learning Kwak’wala series of books. Made to accompany the language education materials. Also includes one video reel of Alert Bay.

Tahltan Project

Subseries contains records related to the Tahltan Research Project. The Tahltan Research Project’s purpose was to collect and preserve knowledge from Tahltan Elders and community members about Tahltan objects and historical photographs in MOA’s collection.
