Collection consists of Haisla cultural documentation and X̄a’islak̓ala/X̌àh̓isl̩ak̓ala (Haisla language) learning material, including sound recordings, stories, a dictionary, and lessons/workbooks. The collection has been divided into two series:

1. Sound recordings
2. Textual materials

Item is the second of two audio recording of performers singing Haida songs at the opening reception of Celebration of the Raven. The recording is Reel #5 of the soundtrack for the film Celebration of the Raven, directed by Ken Kuramoto, which documented the work process and installation of Bill Reid’s carving titled The Raven and the First Men and its unveiling by the Prince of Wales in 1980.

The series contains slides relating to the exhibition Visions of Power Symbols of Wealth: Central Coast Salish Sculpture and Engraving. Images include exhibit views and various artifacts including masks, adzes, spindle whorls, mat creasers, and textiles.

Subseries consists of material produced by museum staff, among them Wilson Duff, Harry and Audrey Hawthorn, Marjorie Halpin, and Gloria Cranmer Webster. There is extensive material on Audrey Hawthorn’s Art of the Kwakiutl Indians. Included in this subseries are ca. 2000 photographs which were collected for possible use in this book. Photographs are numbered A38-A17206 with many numbers missing throughout. The majority of photographs are of wooden masks, but they are also of bowls, bentwood boxes, paddles, rattles, totem poles, talking sticks, headdresses and frontlets, wooden figures and miniatures, whistles, spoons, silver bracelets, argillite carvings, button blankets, chilkat blankets, cedar head and neck rings, woodworking tools, stone tools, and fish hooks. Other record forms included in this subseries include correspondence, notes and published materials.

Item is a recording of Agnes Alfred and Dorothy Hawkins. Item was recorded by Daisy Sewid-Smith at Campbell River, prior to Martine Reid involvement. Item was translated by Daisy Sewid-Smith in 1979.
Item includes four cassette tapes with Agnes Alfred and Dorothy Hawkins talking about love songs; the Hamatsa mask song; permission to use the chant of the Nimpkish, of the Kwakiutl; and their life story.
Item was numbered by creator with roman number II.

Subseries consists of material relating to a commercial tour that focused on Kwakiutl land and culture. The records in this subseries take the form of notes, correspondence, and memoranda.

Series consists of slides representing the inventory of Central Coast Salish art photographed by Dr. Kew during his visits to various North American museums and the British Museum in preparation for the exhibition Visions of Power Symbols of Wealth: Central Coast Salish Sculpture and Engraving. The images illustrate a wide variety of traditional art objects including masks, adzes, spindle whorls, mat creasers, and totems poles, as well as various jewelry, instruments, and utensils. The series also includes two volumes of the Central Coast Salish Computerized Art Inventory, which provides a detailed physical description of each art object.

Fonds consists of 21 photographs from the 1978 Bill Reid pole raising ceremony at Skidegate, an event at which Gill was an observer.

Mr. Bob Wilson at his home in Fort Rupert. Talking in English and Kwakwala about Tlisaligilakw (Mink) and other myths involving sea creatures. Recorded by Martine de Widerspach-Thor (Reid) in 1977 and 1978.

Fonds consists of a paper written for Anthropology 301 taught by Professor Dr. Michael Kew, entitled [Red Cod Island Village or Ninstints Village] - A Memorial, with accompanying colour slide images of the carved poles of Anthony Island, a permanent village of the Kunghit Haida, located on the southern shores of Haida Gwaii.

Item is a sound recording of an unidentified narrator providing the voice-over for an unidentified documentary. The narrator describes the techniques used by Mungo Martin as he provides a carving demonstration and also the acquisition by UBC of totem poles for Totem Park. The narrator also discusses the tools used by Mungo Martin, his methodology and symbolism used in his carvings. Mungo Martin does not speak during the recording.
