Includes records related to the Collections Research Enhancement Project (CREP) stream of the MRP. The purpose of this stream was to “provide enhanced access (visual, physical, and virtual) to the Museum’s collections,” with the following specific objectives:
• To bring all of the 35,000 Multi-MIMSY (database) collections records up to a consistent and standardized level
• To digitize all of MOA’s 35,000 objects, in a format appropriate for research access, according to a digitization strategy that will be developed as part of a coordinated MRP-wide IT strategy
• To develop a mounting system which facilitates object access while maintaining a high level of conservation standards, and to mount objects which require it according to this system
• To provide collections information in a format appropriate for research through the Reciprocal Research Network (RRN)
• To develop a flexible process for responding to originating communities regarding collections access, and to organize MOA’s objects within the Research Suite and visible storage in such a way as to facilitate that response

Series is divided into subseries based on functions of the CREP stream.

The majority of this file contains historical images of the Tlingit and Tahltan First Nations and their respective villages. The other images are of Tlingit or Tahltan artifacts housed in various museums in Canada and the United States. The historic images are of Tlingit or Tahltan villages which include images of Northwest Coast architecture, houses posts and totem poles, canoes, and other household items such as bowls, weavings, and bentwood boxes. There are also some images of the Tlingit people in regalia. The textual records contained in this file is a paper titled "The History of the Babine Carriers," written by Wilfred Adam for the class Education 479, Cross Cultural Education.

Fonds consists of nitrate negatives, copy negatives, prints and postcards of China and Japan, specifically of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing (Peking), Yokohama and Nagasaki. These images were taken by Stuart Schofield during a geological survey expedition in 1923-24. In 1925, Mrs. Florence Schofield compiled the photographs into an album and provided comments for the photos from her memory of the trip.

An accrual to this fonds was discovered in the backlog. It is not known whether this accrual was part of the original accession. In adding this accrual, the case file was consulted and the photocopy of Dr. Schofield’s journal was discovered. This was added to the binder that contains the prints, negatives, and postcards.
Dr. Elizabeth Johnson was responsible for organizing this fonds and she has identified some places and people that were not originally identified by Mrs. Schofield. Her annotations appear in square brackets.

Accrual #2010-06 was added after Dr. Johnson’s organization. This included photographs and postcards. One postcard is dated 1969, but most appear to be ca. 1923-1924 like the original materials.

File contains 11 audiotapes of interviews with Coast Salish community members and artists regarding museums.

Includes Coast Salish Collections meeting minutes and notes and two versions of "Coast Salish area review of community breakdowns, state of documentation and related topics."

File contains photocopies of several published articles pertaining to Coast Salish canoe racing.

Subseries consists correspondence and communication between Hawthorn and individuals who were not representatives of another museum. There are several General Correspondence files, divided by year, and these consist primarily of people requesting that Audrey Hawthorn identify and price various objects, to recommend where to purchase NWC material, to speak at functions, and of requests for bibliographies. This subseries differs from subseries 10-B in that although the files may contain inquiries and requests, they often contain other types of correspondence as well. Record forms include correspondence, press releases, and ephemera.
