This stage includes removing the bark, taking off the outer layer of wood, and making it round in preparation for the design to be added. Also included are images of the log being moved from Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast to the construction company's yard and finally to the carving shed at the University of British Columbia.

Stanley Park beaver crest pole

File consists of photographs documenting the raising of the pole carved by Norman Tait in Stanley Park on 31 October 1987. Tait's brother Alver is present in the images, as well as his daughter Valerie who apprenticed on the job. At the end of the pole raising ceremony, Vickie Jensen was formally adopted into Tait's family.
