This fonds includes items collected and created by Paula Gustafson primarily for her research on Salish and Chilkat weaving, and connected to her 1980 published book “Salish Weaving.” It includes research documents, notes, photographic material, books, articles, and correspondence by Gustafson. The fonds also includes a complete manuscript of the revised and updated “Salish Weaving” book that Gustafson completed in 1997, but that was never published.

Includes correspondence with various museums and government agencies ; a copy of "A Painted Buffalo Hide and Other Rare Ethnographica in the Municipal Anthropological Museum of Frankfurt am Main" by Ernst Vatter in the Frankfurter Society for Anthropology, Ethnography, and Archaeology in Vol. II, 1925 ; photocopied chapter of "Feather Mantles of California" by Charles C. Willoughby in the American Anthropologist Vol 24, 1922 ; numerous photocopies of unknown works, research, letters, etc. ; Gustafson's research notes ; and fibre analyses.

Research and correspondence

Birdskin Clothing

Includes correspondence, drafts, and research surrounding Gustafson's article "Coats of Eider: From the Ungava Inuit of the Belcher Islands" in the 1991 Winter issue of American Indian Art magazine, written with Jill E. Oakes, and Oakes' travelling exhibit "Coats of Eider."
