Portrait of Chief James King, Hakwamees band, Kingcome Inlet. A similar portrait is printed on page 47 of Carter's book "From History's Locker," with the caption: "Holding the speaker's staff is our equivalent of a master of ceremonies." Staff is now in MOA’s collection - object ID: A9181.
File consists of slides depicting First Nations chiefs and elders, Carter's wife Minn Sjolseth with August Jacks, Johnny Seaweed, miscellaneous images from Mount Currie/Lil'wat First Nation, and a photograph labeled "Potlatch Masset 60s".
File consists of image of Haida artist Rufus Moody, taken in what appears to be a home. A woman identified as Lucette is featured as well in a number of the images, possibly his wife. Also included is an image of some of his argillite carvings.
The pole was re-adzed and re-painted by Kwakwaka'wakw carver Mungo Martin before shipping to UBC in 1947. Repainted and repaired by Ellen Neel (1949) and by Mungo Martin (1950-51). It stood at Totem Pole Park, UBC Campus until it was re-located to the Museum's Great Hall ca. 1976.
