Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence relating to the general administrative activities and responsibilities of Elizabeth Johnson in her capacity as Curator of Documentation, Curator of Collections, Curator of Ethnology, and as Curator of Textiles. Records include 10 colour photographs, correspondence, publications, memoranda, photocopies of contact sheets, handwritten notes, name lists, object lists and a project proposal.

Gallery 3

Subseries consists of a memo to Elizabeth Johnson relating to the planning of a future exhibit in Gallery 3 which would show the relationship between MOA and leading NWC artists of the last century. Also included are lists of artists and relevant objects from the Museum of Anthology’s collections, which were considered for inclusion in the exhibit.

Series consists of records relating to Elizabeth Johnson’s activities to obtain grant funding for a book on Salish weaving, research for monograph of preservation on Cantonese opera in Canada, Hakka urban village research, and collections documentation and research. Ming Pau

Subseries consists of records relating to the Museum’s relationship with the Ming Pau Newspaper. In particular the records focus on funding given to the Museum by the newspaper for the 1993 homecoming event and an exhibition review done by the paper. The records include notes, correspondence and a photocopy of a newspaper page.

Festival Hong Kong Exhibits: Contrasts and Possessions

Subseries consists of records relating to two exhibits installed at MOA, in partnership with the Chinese Cultural Centre (CCC) and supported by a grant from the Festival Hong Kong 1992 Committee. "Contrasts: Hong Kong's New Territories in the Twentieth Century" is a photographic exhibit. It opened in Nov 1992, and continued in the lobby at MOA until May 23 1993. "Possessions from the Past" is an exhibit of Hakka artifacts. It opened in Nov 1992, and continued in the lobby at MOA until Mar 14 1993. Elizabeth Johnson was both curator and coordinator for these exhibits. They were also installed at the Chinese Cultural Centre. Subseries includes budgets, completed application form, CHIN printouts, contact lists, correspondence, draft exhibit proposal, final report, invitations, memos, name lists, notes, photographic negatives, receipts, and speaking notes.

Repair, Re-use and Recycle

The exhibit was co-curated by Louise Jackson and Elizabeth Johnson. It was installed at MOA from Feb 18 to May 24, 1992. Subseries consists of records relating to the exhibit "Repair, Re-use and Recycle" installed at MOA in 1992. This exhibit focused on Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Philippine, Dutch and Salish textiles. The intent of the exhibit was to highlight the various techniques used by different cultures to prolong the life of household goods. Subseries includes an artifact list, a diagram, a drawing, exhibit labels and notes.

Canadian Museums Association

Subseries consists of records relating to Elizabeth Johnson’s interaction with the Canadian Museums Association with a specific focus on the ‘Symposium of Cultural Diversity’ and on a mid-career development grant. The records in this file consist of correspondence, a photocopy from a journal, a business card, a procedures outline, notes, minutes, a memorandum, correspondence, agendas, events schedules, requests for funds.

Miscellaneous teaching material

Subseries consists of a handmade, laminated booklet about the preservation and display of textiles. The book was made by Elisa Dubuc while she was an intern at MOA. The book was created to introduce visitors to the textile collection.

Subseries consists of records relating to an exhibit at MOA. This exhibit was planned to coincide with the Quilt Canada conference, 1989. Subseries includes correspondence, labels, memos and notes.

A Family Affair: Making Cloth in Taquile Peru

Subseries consists of records relating to the exhibit "A Family Affair: Making Cloth in Taquile Peru". This exhibit was installed at MOA from May 9 – Oct 1 1989, in Gallery 5. Elizabeth Johnson coordinated this exhibit; it was curated by Mary Frame. Records include: correspondence, grant applications, labels, newsletters, newspaper articles, drawings, notes, phone messages, slide list, statements of agreement, photocopies of documents outlining the layout and budget for the exhibit, inventories of materials used and notes on the exhibit graphics, photocopies of photos selected for the exhibit, and copies of the text for the didactic panels.
