Teslin traditional storytelling and singing by George Johnson

Item is an audio recording of George Johnston (Tlingit name was Kaash KlaÕ) at age 80 singing and speaking in either Haida or Tlingit. He was a hunter, trapper, entrepreneur and photographer and was known for documenting his family life and the Yukon community of Teslin, where he lived. House front totem poles at UBC

Four house front totem poles stand in a meridian, likely at the University of British Columbia. These were largely recovered from Ninstints in 1957. A diving board in the background, as well as the buildings, suggest the photograph was taken on University Boulevard, west of the intersection with Wesbrook Mall.
