YVR projects

Subseries consists of several files documenting a number of projects McLennan was part of at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) over several years. Files include publicity, correspondence, artists’ statements, photographs, artists’ renderings, the YVR Art Foundation and designs for YVR regarding the creation and installation of Northwest Coast art at the International Airport. Art pieces specifically mentioned include Bill Reid’s The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, the Jade Canoe, Susan Point’s Flight Spindle Whorl and Richard Hunt, Dempsey Bob and Robert Davidson’s pieces for the Supernatural World.

The Pacific Passage

Image depicts the exhibition The Pacific Passage installed at the Vancouver International Airport. The focal point of the photograph is Hetux, a large Thunderbird sculpture created by artist Connie Watts (Nuu-chah-nulth, Gitxsan and Kwakwaka'wakw).

Cultural centres

File contains various reports and brochures related to activities involving the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh First Nation, including the following: Aboriginal Youth Ambassador Project in North Vancouver; the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Lil'wat7ul Cultural Centre <i>Community Consultation Summary and Design Concept</i>; the summer 2005 edition of the <i>Kwa Kwayexwelh-Aynexws Wild Spirit</i> newpaper; a "Call for Artists" for the <i>Sculpture Symposium West Vancouver & Squamish Nation</i> pamphlet; and a <i>Waterfront Community: A Cultural Capital</i> pamphlet.

CMC houses project

This subseries contains records relating to an exhibit built at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. McLennan was the project manager and design developer for this project. He oversaw the completion and installation of six west coast First Nation house designs: Coast Salish, Haida, Tsimshian, Bella Coola, Oweekeno, and Kwakwaka'wakw. The records include newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and notes.

Photographs

File mainly contains images of the Houses project held at the CMC. The images include people felling and splitting cedar trees for the construction, the construction phase at the CMC, and images of the finished houses. There are also some historical images for context. The textual records include photocopies of images from the project.

BC Pavillion in Seville

Subseries consists of correspondence and accompanying documentation regarding the creation and installation of northwest coast art at the British Columbia pavilion as part of the Canada pavilion in Seville, Spain in 1992 as part of the Universal Expo of Seville (Expo ’92).
