Haida

File mainly contains historical images of Haida and Tlingit villages and totem poles located on the Northwest Coast of British Columbia and Alaska. There are also images of Haida and Tlingit peoples dressed in regalia. Other photos include images of Haida and Tlingit artifacts, such as bentwood boxes and carvings, housed in various museums around the world. There are also images of a modern day ceremony in front of some totem poles and long houses. The textual records include photocopies of images of totem poles and Haida and Tlingit villages.

Hands of our ancestors

Subseries contains images used in a a publication titled Hands of Our Ancestors: The Revival of Salish Weaving at Musqueam written by Elizabeth Johnson and Kathryn Bernick as well as the publication itself. This publication is part of the Museum Notes program at the Museum of Anthropology.

Heiltsuk/Nuxalk/Oweekeno

File mainly contains historical images of the Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, and Wuikinuxv First Nations. These images depict village life, architecture and house posts, and regalia. The file contains images of a group of Nuxalk who traveled to Berlin to perform there. Images that are not historical depict a ceremony happening in the Great Hall at UBC MOA, unidentified artists working on a set of drawings, and what appears to be the Acwsalcta High School in Bella Coola. Non textual records include photocopies of photographs, and photocopies of museum catalogue cards.

Kwakwaka'wakw

File contains a combination of images of Kwakwaka'wakw artifacts housed in various museums and images of historical Kwakwaka'wakw villages on Vancouver Island and along the Northwest Coast of British Columbia. Artifacts include totem poles, bentwood boxes, carvings, masks, and Kwakwaka'wakw artwork such as paintings and drawings. There are historical photographs of the following villages: Gwat'sinuxw (Quatsino), Kwikwasutinuxw (Gilford Island), A'wa'etlala Village (Knight's Inlet), Mamalikala (Village Island), Wiwekalu Village of T'la'mataxw (Campbell River), Kwixa Village (Salmon River), Dunaxda'xw Village (New Vancouver), and Gwa'sala Village (Smith Inlet). The textual records include information about some of the photographs, identifying items such as the people, the villages, and/or the artifacts depicted in the photographs.

File contains images of bentwood boxes housed at the McCord Museum. The textual records contained in this file are copies of catalogue records.

Museum of Anthropology

File mainly contains images of bentwood boxes housed at the Museum of Anthropology, but also contains images of other Northwest Coast artifacts such as cedar hats and carvings.

File mainly contains images of Northwest Coast artifacts held at the Museum of Anthropology (MOA), including hats, spoons, silver bracelets, and weavings. The textual records include print outs of catalogue records of more artifacts also held at MOA.

Nisga'a

File mainly contains historical images of the Nisga'a villages, peoples, and of Nisga'a totem poles. Other images are of modern day Nisga'a totem poles housed in museums in Canada and the United States. The textual records contained in this file are catalogue cards which provide some of the photograph's context, providing information such as the location of the photograph, the people in the photographs, which museum and/or archive collection the image belongs to, and/or the image's catalogue number.

Northern First Nations

The file contains images of Northwest Coast artifacts located in unidentified First Nation villages, and in various museums in North America. The artifacts include masks, paddles, carvings, rattles, fishing equipment, and household items such as bowls and spoons. The majority of images from various museums include information about the artifact such as what it is, the museum it's housed in, and the artifact's catalogue number.
