Projects and events

Series consists of records created by William McLennan in the course of planning and photographing various projects and events at MOA.

Projects are considered as having a longer duration, often occuring outside of the physical museum building, and in cooperation with other bodies. McLennan often liaised with First Nation communities and artists during the planning stages of projects.

Events are considered as having occurred over a short period of time. Events were attended by McLennan as a MOA representative and photograph.

On both projects and events McLennan took on larger roles in addition to photographer such as community liason, presenting on topics, and designer. Each project and event comprises their own sub-series.

Sunday programs

Subseries consists of photographs documenting various Sunday programs at the MOA and the children attending them. Programs include those for the visually impaired, related to visible storage, related to Japanese heritage and culture, the Punch and Judy show, Evelyn Roth’s giant salmon and others that are unidentified. Photographs were taken by McLennan, Jean Hamilton and Stephen Inglis.

2010 Olympics Aboriginal Art Program

Subseries consists of information provided by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games held in Vancouver regarding an Aboriginal Arts Program for the Olympics. The package includes background information about the program and application information for those wishing to apply.

2010 Olympics

File contains information about the 2010 Olympic Aboriginal Art Program, including an overview and objective aims of the project, and a more indepth report titled "Vancouver 2010 Aboriginal Participation News".

Private pole raising

This subseries contains one file that consists of images of a private pole raising. The mask in the photographs was carved by Jim Hart and is being danced by him. The mask is part of the MOA, UBC collection.

BC Pavillion in Seville

Subseries consists of correspondence and accompanying documentation regarding the creation and installation of northwest coast art at the British Columbia pavilion as part of the Canada pavilion in Seville, Spain in 1992 as part of the Universal Expo of Seville (Expo ’92).

BC Pavillion in Seville

Subseries contains photographs and textual records pertaining to the "Northwest Coast Indian Art Work" exhibit which was displayed at the BC Pavilion at the World's Fair in Seville Spain in 1992. The photo depict some of the artists involved in the project painting on a wooden screen. The textual records include copies of correspondence addressed to and written by McLennan about the artwork showcased at the World Fair. Other textual records include background information about the art work and brief biographies of the artists involved in the project.

Unfinished metal projects

File mainly consists of textual records pertaining to a researcher looking for information about a bracelet in her possession. Other textual records include photocopies of images of the bracelet in question. The photographs contained in this file are of other silver bracelets on display at the Glenbow Museum and the American Museum of Natural History.

NWC metals project – digital prints

File contains copies of letters McLennan wrote to people and the American Museum of Natural History in order to identify the artist who created the bracelet as identified in the previous file. Other records include a catalogue list and information about the formation of copper and silver bracelets.
