Accompanying material

According to William McLennan, this totem pole was based on a pole that originally stood in Massett. It was moved to Beacon Hill Park in Victoria before 1948. The totem pole was knocked down in a wind storm and broke apart. Attempted repairs on the fragments were made by Victoria parks carpenters, not Haida artists. Jim Hart assembled the fragments, viewed archival photographs, and created a clay model before carving the full size replica. A mold was made of the clay model and cast into bronze. MOA has one of the eight casings (Nb1. 500).
