Series consists of records relating to exhibits curated by Jennifer Kramer. The records span the entire breadth of the intellectual creation process, including research material pertaining to exhibition subjects, transcripts of interviews used for research and publication purposes, administrative files and notes and correspondence pertaining to exhibition design, installation and publication development. Fonds currently has records from only one exhibit; additional exhibits material expected.

Central Coast Salish Art Inventory

Series consists of slides representing the inventory of Central Coast Salish art photographed by Dr. Kew during his visits to various North American museums and the British Museum in preparation for the exhibition Visions of Power Symbols of Wealth: Central Coast Salish Sculpture and Engraving. The images illustrate a wide variety of traditional art objects including masks, adzes, spindle whorls, mat creasers, and totems poles, as well as various jewelry, instruments, and utensils. The series also includes two volumes of the Central Coast Salish Computerized Art Inventory, which provides a detailed physical description of each art object.

MOA Space Needs and Development Options Reporting process

This series documents the process choosing a contractor to complete a functional needs analysis and feasibility study of MOA’s space needs and subsequently of soliciting proposals for a detailed study of museum space needs and development options. The series contains drafts and copies of the initial call for expressions of interest for a functional needs analysis and includes the Preliminary Functional Needs Analysis report produced by LORD Cultural Resource Planning and Management, Inc. Other records were produced during the process of soliciting statements of interest for a study of museum space needs and development options. These records demonstrate the consultative approach used to rank the proposals received in response and also document the ongoing process of defining MOA’s space needs. Materials produced during these activities include proposals, correspondence, charts, correspondence, reports, notes, and tables. The series also includes minutes from several committees the activities of which relate to special planning. These include the minutes of the Cliff Erosion Committee and the minutes from 1990-1991 of the Visible Storage Committee.

Visitor studies and surveys

This series documents the planning and implementation of several studies designed to assess the responses to MOA by visitors, members, and non-visitors. It includes records relating to a membership survey, focus group studies of visitors and non-visitors, surveys regarding specific exhibitions, studies of visitors’ responses to MOA’s use of digital media, and others. Records reflect the process of applying to conduct studies, of developing sets of questions, of implementing the studies and of using the information gathered to create reports. Materials include grant proposals, lists of questions, data sets, reports, reference materials, transcripts, correspondence, charts and graphs. The series also contains a reference file of previous studies completed at MOA.

Galleries and exhibitions development

This series reflects Krug’s involvement in developing and assessing various projects related to exhibitions and galleries. It includes records relating to Krug’s proposal for an audio tape project that would document the reflections of various people who had had significant involvement with the Museum; records created during the process of soliciting proposals for designing and building a prototype visible storage case; a report on virtual collections; drafts, reports, and correspondence created during the planning of Gallery 3; and records from the Exhibitions Committee. Materials include proposals, correspondence, minutes, reports, memorandums, and architectural drawings.

Series consists of records generated by two projects undertaken by Herb Watson during his tenure at MOA: The design of textile storage and display unit, 1980-1984; and the design of an extension to the west wing of MOA, 1988-1990.

Calendar of events

Series reflects activities related to producing the MOA calendar of events, including coordinating shared programming with the Centre for Continuing Education, as well as planning and organizing particular programming. Series consists of calendars, circulars, memoranda, correspondence and other textual material.

This series is arranged into 3 sub-series:
A. Exhibits Committee (1982-1985): Sub-Series relates to Ratner’s participation in the museums exhibits committee.
B. Coordinating (1974-1986): Sub-series reflects the organizing of traveling
exhibits, and participation in other exhibit related activities other than public
programming.
C. Programming (1977-1987): Sub-series reflects activities related to public
programming associated with museum exhibits.

This series consists of material relating to the physical environment in which the museum operates. Series is further arranged into subseries, with the records in the subseries arranged chronologically. The records in the series are composed of photographs, work order forms, correspondence, and memoranda. Subseries consists of correspondence, memoranda, plans, financial documents, design plans, minutes, budgets, notes, and contracts.

Series consists of material relating to exhibitions mounted by the museum. Record forms in this series include correspondence, memoranda, notes, sketches, maps, newspaper clippings, insurance evaluations, inventories, ephemera, sketches, maps, receipts, plans and photographs.

Public programmes/events

Series consists of material relating to the activities surrounding public programmes and events planned by the museum to engage the public. Also see audio tapes MOA 70 and 71 which consist of Audrey Hawthorn, accompanied by Elvi Whittaker, giving a tour of the museum. Record forms in this series include correspondence, newspaper clippings, memoranda, photographic negatives, ephemera, plans, budgets, financial statements, receipts, and a copy of the June 9, 1976 edition of UBC Reports, and a copy of Canadian Art Review VI/I/1979.

The series is arranged into three subseries:

Exhibit records

Series documents Cunningham’s responsibilities as exhibits designer, and consists of records related to the planning and implementation of various exhibits since the late 1980s. In addition to his role as designer, Cunningham has also been involved in producing exhibit proposals; assisting with travelling exhibits; and developing exhibition policies and guidelines. Records include artists’ statements and artwork; banners; calligraphy; case lists; contact prints/proofs; contracts; correspondence; exhibition catalogues; exhibition panels; exhibition proposals; exhibition text; guidelines; invitations; labels; loan agreements; measurements; memoranda; minutes; negatives; object lists; photographs; photocopy of artworks; plans; policies; reports; schedules; and sketches.

Series contains photographs taken by Cunningham of the inside and outside of the building, exhibit cases, exhibit spaces, and other institutions.

CFI Partnership of peoples project

Series contains records pertaining to the Canada Foundation for Innovation grant named Partnership of Peoples that was awarded to the Museum of Anthropology in 2007. This project is often simply referred to by museum staff as 'the renewal'. David Cunningham was the lead project designer. His records include the architectural drawings from Stantec and Laboratorio Museotecnico Goppion, research and planning on furniture, lighting, locks, and security. In addition are photographs taken of all stages of the project.
