This series consists of records created, received, and/or used by individuals, groups or committees responsible for public programming and education function of the Museum.
Contains records related to public programming and education policy development, finances, planning, as well as other administrative activities.
Records in this series include correspondence, memoranda, drafts, query/suggestion forms, meeting minutes, grants, acquisition proposal report, reports, guidelines, policy proposals, and handwritten notes.

Series consist of records relating to the Museum of Anthropology’s planning and museum-wide policies. Records include minutes, agendas, drafts, memoranda, news releases, Museum strategic planning reports, budget reports, drafts, drafts of guidelines, and correspondence.

Curriculum vitae of Margaret Stott

Series consists of Margaret Stott’s curriculum vitae. It describes her education, professional experience, exhibitions coordinated or curated, audio-visual publications, and publications. The series was created in 1991 to facilitate access to the sous-fonds.

Facilities and services

Series consists of records relating to Skooker Broome’s responsibilities as a liaison and coordinator of the Museum of Anthropology’s facilities and services. Areas of focus include building maintenance and renovations, and public works. Records include architectural drawings and presentation boards for proposed facility renovations, correspondence, memoranda, and minutes.

Building

Includes records related to the Building Stream of the Renewal Project (MRP). The purpose of this stream was to expand and enhance the existing MOA built space, with the following specific objectives:
• To build a new research centre comprised of four Research Suite including laboratory spaces, individual and group work spaces, and office spaces.
• To construct new storage space, including visible and compacting storage, to house MOA’s and the Laboratory of Archaeology’s (LOA) collections
• To respect the building and its exterior as a significant architectural heritage site in the renovations plans
• To create spaces where community members may gather and attend to collection objects in ways that respect their cultural traditions
• To improve the Museum’s financial viability by expanding revenue generating facilities such as the retail store, and by making its building operations more efficient
• To create enhanced Visitor Services for Museum users, such welcoming and warm arrival spaces which ate self-orienting and which provide all needed amenities
• To create efficient and supportive work spaces for staff, students, researchers, and volunteers
• To provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for all researchers using MOA’s facilities
• To provide enhanced teaching support within the new facilities

The series is divided into subseries based on the various functions of the Building stream.

CFI Partnership of peoples project

Series contains records pertaining to the Canada Foundation for Innovation grant named Partnership of Peoples that was awarded to the Museum of Anthropology in 2007. This project is often simply referred to by museum staff as 'the renewal'. David Cunningham was the lead project designer. His records include the architectural drawings from Stantec and Laboratorio Museotecnico Goppion, research and planning on furniture, lighting, locks, and security. In addition are photographs taken of all stages of the project.

Photographs

Series contains photographs taken by Cunningham of the inside and outside of the building, exhibit cases, exhibit spaces, and other institutions.

MOA Space Needs and Development Options Reporting process

This series documents the process choosing a contractor to complete a functional needs analysis and feasibility study of MOA’s space needs and subsequently of soliciting proposals for a detailed study of museum space needs and development options. The series contains drafts and copies of the initial call for expressions of interest for a functional needs analysis and includes the Preliminary Functional Needs Analysis report produced by LORD Cultural Resource Planning and Management, Inc. Other records were produced during the process of soliciting statements of interest for a study of museum space needs and development options. These records demonstrate the consultative approach used to rank the proposals received in response and also document the ongoing process of defining MOA’s space needs. Materials produced during these activities include proposals, correspondence, charts, correspondence, reports, notes, and tables. The series also includes minutes from several committees the activities of which relate to special planning. These include the minutes of the Cliff Erosion Committee and the minutes from 1990-1991 of the Visible Storage Committee.

Pow Wow

Series consists of records created, received, and/or used by Lindy-Lou Flynn, a contract researcher hired by the Museum of Anthropology to work under the supervision of Rosa Ho. Lindy-Lou Flynn documented and conducted field-work on Pow-Wows in British Columbia and Washington State. The Pow-Wow research project focused on the role of Pow-Wows in the construction and perception of native identity. Records include a contract, funding and financial information, a final report, field notes, correspondences, colour slides, audio tapes and their summaries, a bibliography, artifacts, posters, a video, a photograph, signed release forms, scholarly articles, newspaper clippings, and brochures on the Pow-Wow 91 research project.

Sourcebooks and Related Materials

Series is composed of sourcebooks and related materials such as correspondence, consent forms, research notes, and exhibit design stemming from sourcebooks. Sourcebooks in this series were created under the guidance of Pam Brown. Many of the source books were created through the Aboriginal Museum Internship Programme and are often either autobiographical or offer perspectives and insights into the Aboriginal interns’ communities and lives. Other sourcebooks were produced in conjunction with First Nations artists. Though most of the sourcebooks were originally laminated or bound in binders, in 2011 and 2012, MOA published four hard cover copies of the sourcebooks, which are also included in the Series.

Nuu-chah-nulth

Series is made up of records related to the creation of a Nuu-chah-nulth (otherwise referred to as T’aat’aaqsapa, West Coast language, or Nootka) dictionary.

Powell was first contacted to do a Nuu-chah-nulth language project in 1989 by Andrew Callicum, a Nuu-chah-nulth Elder and acquaintance. Originally they planned to create curriculum materials, but after John Thomas, a main informant, left the project, it was decided that they would create a dictionary instead.

Series comprises five sub-series:

Exhibit records

Series documents Cunningham’s responsibilities as exhibits designer, and consists of records related to the planning and implementation of various exhibits since the late 1980s. In addition to his role as designer, Cunningham has also been involved in producing exhibit proposals; assisting with travelling exhibits; and developing exhibition policies and guidelines. Records include artists’ statements and artwork; banners; calligraphy; case lists; contact prints/proofs; contracts; correspondence; exhibition catalogues; exhibition panels; exhibition proposals; exhibition text; guidelines; invitations; labels; loan agreements; measurements; memoranda; minutes; negatives; object lists; photographs; photocopy of artworks; plans; policies; reports; schedules; and sketches.

Building Projects

Series consists of materials used in the planning and design of the MOA Expansion projects which include visible storage and the Research Centre. Records consist of correspondence, memorandum, reports, grant application, budgets, design drawings, floor plans, and meeting minutes.

Exhibition planning

Series consists of records relating to exhibition planning carried out by Rosa Ho in her capacity as Curator of Art and Public programmes. Included in the records are planning records for exhibitions, installations, and performances hosted by and produced in whole or in part by the Museum of Anthropology.
Records include correspondence, memoranda, financial records, artist lists, object lists, artifact descriptions, exhibition programs, hand written notes, exhibition announcements, designs for labels, photographs, transcripts, grant proposals, loan agreements, artifacts, newspaper clippings, photocopied scholarly articles, a grant application for the “Chilcotin War” project, a Musqueam weaving proposal, a telephone transcription, an audio cassette and exhibition proposals.

Education records

Series consists of artists’ statements, cards, diagrams, lecture notes, pamphlets, reports, student assignments, and syllabi relating to David Dunnett Cunningham’s responsibility as an instructor of Anthropology 431: Museum Principles and Techniques, and 432: The Anthropology of Public Representation, and a community course, Introduction to the Museum of Anthropology.

Museum of Anthropology committees

Series consists of records pertaining to committees associated with planning and administration at the Museum of Anthropology. Records relate to the following committees: the Acquisition committee, the Public Programmes and Education committee, the Repatriation committee, the Management committee, the Visual Arts and Museums Advisory committee, and the Ways and Means committee. Records include minutes, policy reports, proposal forms, budget proposals & reports, newspaper clippings, preservation reports, exhibition proposals, handwritten notes, reports on access issues, object lists, and correspondence.

Miscellaneous project records

Series documents projects Cunningham took on outside of his main roles at MOA. Cunningham was involved in MOA’s identity development in the late 1990s, and participated in shop product development around this time. He also provided external consultation to other museums and UBC departments. Included in this series is material regarding MOA exhibition cases at YVR Airport pre-dating Cunningham’s time at the museum. Records include correspondence, drawings, measurements, and photographs.
