Gitxsan

File contains historical photographs of Gitxsan villages, with a specific focus on totem poles and various buildings in the villages. There are also some images of the Gitxsan people in regalia. File contains a combination of historical photographs depicting village life of the Coast Salish people, and modern day photographs of Salish artifacts housed in various museums around the world. The historical photographs contain images of Coast Salish peoples, totem poles, house posts, canoes, and petroglyphs. The modern day photographs contain images of Coast Salish artifacts such as blankets, spindle whorls, masks, carvings, house posts and totem poles, and household items such as combs and bowls. The textual records contained in this file are photocopies of images of Coast Salish artifacts housed in various museums around the world.

Culture photographs

Subseries contains binders of copies of images that McLennan has ordered, and some cases paid for, from other institutions, in addition to some that he has taken himself. He has arranged them in binders according to culture. He created these binders as an easy reference system for faculty, students, community members, and artists to use when identifying and comparing cultural artistic styles, and traditional customs. First Nations included in the culture photographs include: Tsimshian, Haisla, Kwakwaka’wakw, Northern First Nations, Ktunaxa, Kinbasket, Okanagan, Salish, Tlingit, Tahltan, Tsilhqot’in, Secwepemc, Stl’atl’lmx, Nlaka’pamux, Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, Oweekeno, Gitxsan, Haida, Nuu-chah-nulth and Nisga’a. A file also pertains to differentiating between different styles of canoes.

Glenbow Archives

File contains correspondence between McLennan and Glenbow Museum regarding photographic requisitions. There are also photocopies of some of images that McLennan wished to receive from Glenbow.
