Administrative Records

Subseries consists of records created, received, and/or used by Miriam Clavir in the course of her administrative duties, including her activities on the Collections Committee. Also included are records relating to repatriation activities, personal job descriptions, and a leave request. These records come in the form of correspondence, memoranda, annual reports, collection policy notes, (staff) retreat reports, budget reports, minutes of meetings, typewritten notes, a collection survey report, and a conservation photograph for the MOA website.

Bill Reid memorial

Subseries consists of records relating to Haida artist Bill Reid’s memorial services held in the Great Hall at the MOA on March 24, 1998. For the Bill Reid memorial, Skooker Broome participated in coordinating and in planning of the memorial services. Records include memorial program & itineraries, MOA topographical maps, handwritten notes, memoranda, UBC Plant Operation records, and audiovisual estimates.

Loan requests, correspondence and planning

Subseries consists of materials which predominantly document correspondence between Audrey Hawthorn and various individuals regarding the loan of the materials or services to the museum. This material reflects the more formal stage of interaction such as letters initiating contact with relevant parties and expressions of gratitude rather than practical information regarding the transfer of objects. The subseries also contains some information related to planning for exhibitions. The records in this subseries take the form of correspondence, memoranda, notes, sketches, and 14 photocopies of maps which have been annotated.

Public relations

Subseries consists of material pertaining to the museum’s interactions with the media during Hawthorn’s tenure. Records in this subseries consist of newspaper articles, museum, press releases, ephemera and memoranda.

Staff

Subseries consists of files on specific employees, on positions and on the day to day life of museum staff members. A staff member is generally considered a paid employee versus a volunteer who works without pay. The records in this subseries consist of curriculum vitas, memoranda, notes, correspondence, newspaper and magazine clippings, ephemera, time sheets, receipts, account statements, position postings, and appointment notices.

Subseries consists of records relating the course Anthropology 431 Museum Principals and Methods which Elizabeth Johnson taught regularly between 1993 and 2002. Records in the series include notes and lecture notes, correspondence, syllabi, contracts bibliographies, course description grading schemes, history of the University of British Columbia and the Museum of Anthropology’s massive carvings, artifact list, acquisition background information form, and Elizabeth Johnson’s short biography.
