Attributed to Edenshaw

Subseries contains records related to the <i>Attributed to Edenshaw Exhibit</i> held at MOA from April 28, 1998 through May 30, 2003. This exhibit featured basketry as well as gold, silver, argillite and wood carvings by Haida artists Charles and Isabella Edenshaw. Records include photographs of artifacts identified as potentially on exhibit during the time frame as well as some correspondence and public relations regarding the exhibit.

Edgar Heap of Birds: “Wheel: Overlays”

The records in this sub-series relate to the artist Edgar Heap of Birds and the 2007 MOA exhibition Wheel: Overlays. An Installation by Hock E Aye VI, Edgar Heap of Birds. Sub-series consists of 4 files which relate to research and planning for the exhibition in addition to the Native Youth Project done in conjunction with the exhibition. The files consist of photographs, promotional materials, final reports, grant applications, exhibit development and educational materials, final reporting, research notes, correspondences, as well as articles about the exhibit and the artist.

Misc. photographs

Consists of photographs taken of social events and carvers connected to the Tait project, but not officially part of the project itself. Jensen was invited to a number of feasts and parties hosted by the Tait family, which she often photographed, making a gift of the pictures to the family members. At one of the parties, a family member performed a dance wearing a mask made to represent Jensen and her camera, complete with the sound of the shutter. In addition to events, Jensen met a number of artists, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, through her acquaintance with the Taits, and she often photographed them.

Squamish Lil'wat cultural centre

Subseries contains four files consisting of background information, meeting minutes and correspondence, research on other cultural centres, and reports. McLennan’s role in this project was to consult with community members to help them identify their needs in order to properly house their cultural heritage.

Publications and research material

Consists of notes and copies of two publications: By Punt to Kitlope (curriculum booklet 2006); two copies of the Haisla Unity Feast Book, called Our Lands, Nuyem and Stories (2005); 160 km of Haisla History: Guidebook for a visit to the Kitlope; and Our Nuyem Says… (a school curriculum).

Programme communication and flights

Subseries consists of records relating to a work shop for curators of Korean art. This work shop was held in Seoul, Korea and the consequently elements of this file relate to travel arrangements. Records in this series are comprised of correspondence and notes.

Subseries consists of records relating to the course on Chinese Painting taught by Elizabeth Johnson for the department of Art History at the University of British Columbia. The records in this subseries include notes, memoranda, exhibit proposals, correspondence, and annotated essays.

This subseries consists of images showing objects from the MOA on display at the president of the University of British Columbia’s house, and one textual record listing the labels for these objects.

Cantonese Opera

Subseries consists of records relating to various aspects of the Cantonese opera in Vancouver including, photo permissions, questions surrounding documentation, and seminars. Records relate to the Hong Kong Cantonese Opera Troupe performance hosted by the Museum of Anthropology. The records in this file consist of photographs, correspondence, notes, agreements, business card, programmes, signage, object list, work plan, presentation, contact list, notebooks, oversized posters, and ephemera.
