Series consists of correspondence and memoranda, handwritten notations, reports, newspaper clippings, journal articles, pamphlets, minutes, financial statements, papers, membership lists, photographs and other textual and graphic material related to the Museum of Anthropology’s relations with individuals, organizations, and associations external to the museum. Series includes records related to museum membership vis-à-vis the short-lived Friends of the Museum of Anthropology, the museum’s public relations activities, and events held by external organizations or groups at the museum, such as APEC, inquiries and requests received by the museum, including requests for guided visits, as well as records regarding the collection of visitor comments. In addition to Ames’ general communications and correspondence, the series also includes records relating to the Museum of Anthropology’s relations with other museums and institutions. This includes correspondence and other records regarding the director’s participation in a number of external museum-related committees and associations.

The series includes records relating to specific programmes, the planning of programmes, museum film and video productions and their viewing, as well as records regarding special events and performances held at the museum. Also includes planning records relating to the museum’s involvement with Expo’86.

Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes & agendas, draft & final copies of the museum’s exhibitions, programs and building plans, printed presentation slides, invitations, magazine & journal articles, brochures, handwritten notes, and other textual records related to the administrative activities and responsibilities regarding the Museum of Anthropology’s External Advisory Board. The Advisory Board, comprised of experts from various diverse cultural backgrounds, was established in order to help decide and shape the Museum’s direction and promote support within local, national and international communities. The Advisory Board was active from 2007-2013 and re-activated in 2019.
Also included in this series are Board members’ recruitment files consisting of biographical information and curriculum vitae.

Includes records related to museum policies and procedures and their development, the planning of museum activities and goals, the evaluation and accountability of the museum, including files containing museum annual report information and files regarding reviews of the museum, records regarding contracts and agreements made by the museum, and records related to various museum committees. The series also includes records related to the administration of the museum in general, including files regarding the early history of the museum, executive committee and staff meetings and memoranda, as well as files of correspondence and minutes of meetings relating to communications and involvement with the Dean of Arts and the President’s Office.

Includes records related to the teaching and planning of University of British Columbia credit courses, such as the Museum Studies Certificate program, taught at the museum, as well as records regarding special volunteer training and internship programs at the museum. The series also includes files regarding research and publications by the directors, other Museum of Anthropology staff and individuals not employed by the museum. In addition, the series includes records relating to talks given by the Director of the Museum, as well as a few files related to Michael Ames’ retirement and nominations for various awards.

Includes records related to the acquisition of new collection pieces, including records related to the museum’s Acquisitions Committee and the donation of particular items and collections to the museum. Also included are records related to the de-accessioning and repatriation of museum collection items. The series also includes records related to the preservation, conservation, and storage of collections, and records related to the museum’s collections in general.
