Ketchikan and Kitwancool Totems and Views

File consists of slides depicting totems and views labeled as in Kispiox, Kitwancool, Ketchikan, Haida, Kitseguckla, Skedans, and Kingcome. File also consists of slides documenting two of Minn Sjolseth's paintings entitled "En av de Siste" (sp?) and "Peace."
The majority of this file contains historical images of the Tlingit and Tahltan First Nations and their respective villages. The other images are of Tlingit or Tahltan artifacts housed in various museums in Canada and the United States. The historic images are of Tlingit or Tahltan villages which include images of Northwest Coast architecture, houses posts and totem poles, canoes, and other household items such as bowls, weavings, and bentwood boxes. There are also some images of the Tlingit people in regalia. The textual records contained in this file is a paper titled "The History of the Babine Carriers," written by Wilfred Adam for the class Education 479, Cross Cultural Education.

Tsilhqot'in/Secwepemc/Stl'al'lmx/Nlaka'pamux
The majority of the file contains historical images of the Tsilhqot'in, Secwepemc, Stl'al'lmx, and the Nlaka'pamux peoples. The photographs depict village life, including images of building structures in the BC interior, fish processing techniques such as fish drying, and carvings such as mortuary poles. Some of the images also depict First Nations people, some in regalia. The other images are official photographs taken by various museums in Canadian and American museums of Tsilhqot'in, Secwepemc, Stl'al'lmx, or Nlaka'pamux artifacts. The textual records contained in this file consist of a photocopy of a magazine article titled "Upstairs, downstairs: the early years," written by Heather Pringle, and published in the June 1996 (Volume 111, number 5) edition of the magazine Saturday Night.

File mainly contains historical images of the Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, and Wuikinuxv First Nations. These images depict village life, architecture and house posts, and regalia. The file contains images of a group of Nuxalk who traveled to Berlin to perform there. Images that are not historical depict a ceremony happening in the Great Hall at UBC MOA, unidentified artists working on a set of drawings, and what appears to be the Acwsalcta High School in Bella Coola. Non textual records include photocopies of photographs, and photocopies of museum catalogue cards.

File contains sixteen negatives taken by Barwick at an excavation at Beach Grove in the Fraser River delta in June of 1957, likely done under the guidance of Charles Borden, a Lecturer and later Professor of Archaeology at UBC who studied the Beach Grove site from ca. 1955 to 1958. Notes on the envelope indicate these negatives include images of D. N. Abbott, Colin McCafferty, and Nansi Swayze.
