File contains correspondence and art packages. The two art packages consists of Northwest Coast Art and The Whale House of the Chilkat. These packages contain historic photographs with full explanations, as well as high lighting the design elements. They were published by the Alaska State Museum.

This file contains a letter and attached report written by Wilson Duff at the request of Barrie Reynolds, chief ethnologist at the National Museum of Man [Canadian Museum of History]. The contents relate to the valuation of a collection of Northwest Coast cultural belongings and other items that a Mr. Birmingham intended to sell to the museum. Duff provides an overarching analysis of the collection and comments on the discrepancies between (1) museum valuation and its emphasis on ethnological information, and (2) an art market in which investors view objects and belongings based on aesthetic qualities and their potential as investment pieces.

This file contains correspondences from Bruce Rigsby to Wilson Duff. Rigsby summarises his meetings with a number of Gitxsan, Nisga'a, and Tsimshian individuals, including the recording of information about houses of specific kinship lineages (or clans) and other oral histories. Rigsby also includes a proposed orthography for Nisga'a and Gitxsan, a copy of his article "A note on Gitksan speech-play", and a copy of a conference paper "An early nineteenth century prophet among the Gitksan". Records in this file refer to the Nisga'a people as Nass.

This subseries contains records relating to an exhibit built at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. McLennan was the project manager and design developer for this project. He oversaw the completion and installation of six west coast First Nation house designs: Coast Salish, Haida, Tsimshian, Bella Coola, Oweekeno, and Kwakwaka'wakw. The records include newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and notes.

This file contains information related to a collection of Northwest Coast art owned by Roy C. Cole, which he intended to sell. As indicated by Wilson Duff's letter to Peter Downes, Duff travelled to Hamilton, Ontario on Downes' behalf to evaluate the collection. Duff provides an idiosyncratic system for evaluating the collection and indicates what his markings mean in terms of the anthropological and artistic merit of each object. In addition to the letter, the file includes a draft version and two copies of the inventory - one with handwritten notes. Additional materials include two pages of notes with travel information and a sketch.

File contains a copy of the <i>Through my Eye</i> exhibit record, as well as copies of the exhibit's excerpts from the Vancouver Museum. There is also a postcard from the Vancouver Museum of a Tsimshian frontlet.

File consists of images of First Nations adults and children in Bella Coola, Klemtu, Bella Bella, Haida Gwaii, and Hartley Bay, BC.

This file contains two copies of a letter sent by Wilson Duff to Gilles Jasmin of the Canada Council's Humanities and Social Science Division. The letter is written in support of Gordon Inglis' work to author the article focused on the Tsimshian as part of the "Handbook of North American Indians". The letter also makes mention of Dr. Bruce Rigsby from the University of New Mexico and his linguistic research conducted in Tsimshian villages.

File contains historical photographs of Gitxsan villages, with a specific focus on totem poles and various buildings in the villages. There are also some images of the Gitxsan people in regalia. The textual records contain information to some of the photographs, listing the photograph's title and the museum and/or archive it originated from.

This file contains a correspondence from Helen Chandra of the Field Museum, and includes images and descriptive notes for two bentwood boxes in their collections. The letter indicates that colour slides were also included in the correspondence

This file contains correspondences between J.A. Macdonald, Wilson Duff, and Harry Hawthorn regarding the valuation and acquisition of MacDonald's collection, part of which were acquired from W.H. Collison via Macdonald's uncle W.E. Collison. Duff provided a valuation of the collection. Hawthorn indicated that the Museum of Anthropology could not raise the funds to purchase the collection, and Macdonald was put in contact with Peter McNair of the BC Provincial Museum (now the Royal BC Museum) to negotiate purchase of the collection.

In one letter, Macdonald provides oral history about his acquaintance with a Nisga'a family at Ging̱olx (Kincolith) who were descended from the Tsetsaut people. Another letter indicates that Macdonald provided Duff with a copy of a speech from Henry Edenshaw.

This file contains letters and texts written by Joyce Wilke to Wilson Duff. The letters largely discuss the topic of publication, including revision notes and comments on errors made in other authors' texts. Texts included in the file focus on Coast Salish dancing and dance traditions, as well as economic relationships between Indigenous Nations of the Northwest Coast and European traders.

Texts on the theme of Coast Salish dances include Wilkes' typed summary of a Winter Dance that took place in Esquimalt in 1943, and handwritten notes about Spirit Dances at the Swinomish Reservation in 1940-41. The latter also includes language notes about community terms relevant to these dances. There is also a published article by David F. Aberle that theorizes about a so-called Prophet Dance movement.

Wilkes' more extensive manuscript represents her doctoral dissertation concerning maritime trade between various coastal First Nations and European traders, which focuses on the European demand for sea otter fur, and the interest of First Nations in obtaining iron, copper, firearms, and textiles. The author also discusses food and liquor as part of trade relations. A photocopy and original version of Wilkes' bibliography are also included.
