This file contains a correspondence between Dan Savard with the Ethnology Division of the BC Provincial Museum [Royal BC Museum] and Wilson Duff. It concerns a request to Duff about the dates when images of several objects were taken. It also includes a request for bibliographic information about photographer J.B. (Jack) Scott. The images include Haida bentwood boxes and D-adzes tools from Skidegate and Gitxsan totem poles (erroneously labelled as Tsimshian) from a location near Hazelton.

Item is an audio recording of Mrs. Gertrude Kelly providing Skidegate Haida translations of words to an interviewer, Randy Bouchard as part of the How to Write the Haida Language project. According to the recording, Mrs. Gertrude Kelly was formerly of Skidegate and at the time of the recording was living in Vancouver. Randy Bouchard co-founded the BC Indian Language Project in 1968 (https://www.memorybc.ca/british-columbia-indian-language-project) and is the author of numerous books pertaining to First Nations subject matter.

File mainly contains historical images of Haida and Tlingit villages and totem poles located on the Northwest Coast of British Columbia and Alaska. There are also images of Haida and Tlingit peoples dressed in regalia. Other photos include images of Haida and Tlingit artifacts, such as bentwood boxes and carvings, housed in various museums around the world. There are also images of a modern day ceremony in front of some totem poles and long houses. The textual records include photocopies of images of totem poles and Haida and Tlingit villages.

Item is an audio recording of Mrs. Susan Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Jones and Mr. Henry Young singing Haida songs, with drum accompaniment. The recording took place in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, British Columbia.

Fonds consists of 21 photographs from the 1978 Bill Reid pole raising ceremony at Skidegate, an event at which Gill was an observer.

File consists of slides depicting Minn Sjolseth's paintings and labeled "Longhouse Posts Totem, Village Island, BC, 1974," "Kitwanga Village, 1967," "'Intermission' Kwakiutl, 1974," "Kwakiutl Totems, Alert Bay 1971,", "Last Totem of Skidegate QCI," "Native Cariboo Child, 1973," "Final Rest 1973," "Kwakiutl Totem 1973," "Dominic Charlie, Weather Prophet, Squamish Tribe, 1972," "Wilderness Watch, 1973," and "Basket Weaver." Many of these paintings depict individuals also photographed by Anthony Carter for his book publications.

This file contains correspondences from Nancy Turner to Wilson Duff. A letter and accompanying manuscript concern Turner's text "Bella Coola Ethnobotany", which was drafted for publication in Syesis. The publication provides the traditional names, use and preparation methods, and oral history notes for 135 plants used by the Nuxalk people.

A small greeting card with a print of totems poles painted by A. Fairbairn on the cover includes a message from Turner that details names of people she met at Skidegate and Masset who provided ethnobotanical information for her research.

The file contains what appear to be narrative accession notes for seven (7) items donated to MOA by Dr. George H. Raley in 1948-1949. Notes and catalogue records provide provenance and cultural context, including information pertaining to object numbers A1571 a-b (noted as 18 Bella Bella/Shaman's box; poss. A1764 a-b), A1465, A1776 a-c (noted as 'The angel'), possibly A6519 (listed as A1138), A1800 (Gumbegalis/ancestor figure), and other objects that may have been repatriated or which are not currently identifiable in the MOA Catalogue.

Notes provide dates of 1948 and 1949 for Duff's conversation with Dr. Raley. Several objects incorrectly attribute communities of origin due outdated practice of grouping peoples based on linguistic similarities.

This file contains correspondences related to Wilson Duff's publication of an article in response to Allen Wardwell's article “The Partial Rediscovery of a Northwest Coast Monument". Correspondences and reproduced fieldnotes, oral history, and photographs discuss a moon figure that was connected to a possible mortuary pole for Captain Gold [Nankilstas] at Chaatl.

File consists of images of Haida Gwaii. Subjects include the Skedans village site, the city of Skidegate, Maud Island, and Queen Charlotte City.
