Mary Tucker fonds

Fonds consists of an album given to Mary Tucker by her grandfather who had received it in the early 1900s as a gift from the Japanese Diet. The album consists of a series of hand-tinted silk screen reproductions depicting a variety of Japanese scenes and landmarks. Each individual silk screen is labeled with the subject of the image. The covers of the album are black lacquer with a floral image in gold on the back cover and a scene in relief of a woman and a boy sweeping on the front cover.

Beatrice Pilon fonds

The fonds consists of material Pilon created and collected when she was in China from 1947-49. Pilon worked for the Pioneer Timber Co., and attended the Medical College at West China Union University (WCUU), in Chengtu, Szechwan, China. Prominent themes among the fonds materials are the daily life of an international student in China, Christian missionary work in China, and discussions (among English speakers) on the contemporary Chinese Revolution of 1949.

Records include letters, photos from China and Tibet, local publications, and drafts of Pilon's essays. The fonds also includes an original book of Mongolian Folklore (1926) and other misc. related items. Also includes digitized copies of material, created by Pilon's niece, Jane Wagner.

Bob Kingsmill fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, questionnaires, and photographs relating to Bob Kingsmill’s research for his book A Catalogue of British Columbia Potters (1978). In order to gather material for his book, Kingsmill created a questionnaire requesting information and photographs, which he sent to about 70 potters throughout British Columbia. The fonds consists mainly of the responses Kingsmill received, which include the completed questionnaires containing short biographical and artistic statements by each potter, together with black and white or colour photographs of the artists and their pottery.

Fonds consists of a set of tapes of interviews and the corresponding interview transcripts with Dr. Charles (Carl) E. Borden, late Professor Emeritus of Archaeology at the University of British Columbia, in June/July 1978. Additional textual records include comments made off-tape by Dr. Charles E. Borden during the course of the interviews. The interviews were conducted, transcribed, and edited by Anne Williams for her thesis Carl Borden and archaeology in British Columbia: an interactive history. The interviews relate to the social history of archaeology in British Columbia and were made possible by a British Columbia Youth Employment Program grant.

The records in this fonds consist of material created and received by Ruus both in her voluntary capacity and as a curatorial assistant. The majority of the records in the fonds pertain to the 1976 Guatemalan Highlands exhibit. Other records in the fonds are largely composed of photographic documentation of the clothing and textiles of various cultures. Other materials in the fonds relate to the management of the museum’s collection, with a particular focus on research into visible storage. Records in this fonds are composed of slides, photographs, notes, memoranda, and correspondence.

Stephen Inglis fonds

Fonds consists of photographic material created by Dr. Stephen Inglis and a series of twenty-four black and white prints depicting potters in a small community in India or images of fertility statues photographed by colleague Walter Huber. The colour negatives show local artisans and their works. The black and white photos mounted on cards were created between 1974 and 1977 and show Indian craftspeople, particularly Bengalis and Tamils. The images may have been created for the purpose of Dr. Inglis’s PhD research.

AC2002-48-025  48-76 are 51 colour negatives that depict local craftspeople and shrines in India.

AC2002-22-001 22-160 are black and white photographic prints mounted on white card. The images depict local Indian craftspeople, particularly Bengalis and Tamils. Some are identified with location and what is happening in the photo, while some are unidentified.

Wilson Duff fonds

The Wilson Duff papers consist of textual records, photographs, negatives, slides, maps, audio recordings, compact disks and one video tape that relate to Duff's activities, correspondences, and publications as one of the foremost researchers in Northwest coast Indian history, culture and traditions. Fonds consists of negative images of petroglyphs largely from the Pacific west coast of North America. Most of the images are from sites located in British Columbia, but there are also images from sites in Washington State, New Mexico, and other areas of the United States and Mexico. There are also images of artifacts, masks, totem poles, wood carvings, and graveyards. Images of family travels, landscapes, wild animals, and house cats are interspersed within the collection.

Dan Jorgensen fonds

Fonds consists of 83 photographs taken between 1974 and 75 when Dan Jorgensen was in Papua New Guinea to study the Telefolmin people. The images have been mounted on card and are labeled with place and title. Most of them were assigned a number and letter by Dr. Jorgensen. On the verso of the card, Dr. Jorgensen has detailed what is happening in the image.

The material is grouped according to a letter designation which Dr. Jorgensen had assigned. The assistant archivist has assigned a DJ and number to those images that Dr. Jorgensen had not numbered.

E. Polly Hammer fonds

This fonds consists of 136 slides taken by E. Polly Hammer on various trips to British Columbia, Alaska, Manitoba, and Minnesota during the time she was based in Manitoba. The slides primarily depict totem poles from throughout the Northwest coast, including carvings by Mungo Martin and Henry Hunt. There are also depictions of petroglyphs and other works of art, as well as buildings (houses, museums, forts, and other dwelling places) and landscapes. There are also several photographs of events attended and photographed by E. Polly Hammer. The fonds also contains a booklet with information on and images of totem poles in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

James Albert Gibson fonds

Gibson created the recordings while conducting research for his dissertation, “Shuswap Grammatical Structure” (1973).
